  This image shows Drosophila ovarian tissue stained to see actin (red) and Filamin (blue) in muscle fibers. The small green dots are the FasciclinIII cell adhesion protein fused to Green Fluorescent Protein. The Fas3::GFP dots outline individual muscle cells. The large Fas3::GFP spots are in the egg chambers within the muscle layer.

  A transversal section of the skin epithelium. The bonafide hair follicle stem cells, called bulge cells, are marked in green by CD34 membrane marker. This marker is also expressed by endothealial cells in the dermis.

• Electron microscope images (depicted in idealized form at rear left) of kinesin, of one of life's smallest molecular motors, were used to derive highly detailed 3D maps (transparent surface) of the motor frozen in action.  By fitting atomic models (colored ribbons) into the 3D maps, a detailed mechanism (blue schematic at rear right) was derived for how a single molecule of biological fuel, called ATP, initiates motor movement.
