What is BBS?

The Yale Combined Program in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS) offers unprecedented access to Yale’s amazing array of bioscience resources, encompassing everything the university has to offer in one comprehensive, interdisciplinary graduate program.

BBS has no boundaries, either departmental or geographical. Students therefore have access to courses, seminars, and faculty labs in every department. Moreover, because Yale is unusual among major universities in having its main campus and medical school within walking distance of one another, students can participate in research activities anywhere – on the main University campus as well as at the world-renowned Yale School of Medicine.

Within BBS, there are approximately 260 participating faculty, several dozen courses, and countless seminars from which to choose. To prevent students (and faculty!) from getting lost in this abundance of opportunity, BBS is divided into 8 interest-based “Tracks”:

  1. Computational Biology and Bioinformatics
  2. Immunology
  3. Microbiology
  4. Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry
  5. Molecular Cell Biology, Genetics and Development
  6. Neuroscience
  7. Pharmacological Sciences and Molecular Medicine
  8. Physiology and Integrative Medical Biology
